Cautions and contra-indications
Reflexology is a modality that is safe for most people, however treatment should be avoided or deferred in case a person is affected by:

-
Foot fractures or injuries
-
Unhealed wounds on the foot
-
Active gout in the foot
-
Infectious foot conditions
-
Active systemic infection/fever
-
Untreated or suspected thrombosis or embolism
-
Or if they are in the first trimester of pregnancy*
*Reflexology can be provided safely by a practitioner trained in maternity and pregnancy reflexology, but I personally treat from the beginning of the 2nd trimester onwards.

Clients who are under the care of a medical professional or primary care provider for a diagnosed condition are generally encouraged to discuss their wish to have reflexology with them prior to commencing treatment.
